City of Refuge Outreach Ministry

            “Therefore said he unto them, the harvest truly is great but the laborers are few, pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2).

      It was with this vision that Barbara and Johnny Davis began this ministry, established on December 1, 1995 in Sumter, South Carolina.  This ministry endeavors to provide an environment, in which people can come and find a place of belonging, acceptance and spiritual growth.

Ministry Vision 

Our vision is to see God raise up a great, strong local church, which shall bring praise and glory to him, and to fulfill his will and purpose. We are appointed by God to be a ministry that ministers to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading the Gospel through word and deed. At every level of connection  we engage in focusing on the grace and salvations of God which brings people to the faith and maturity in Christ Jesus through the works of the Holy Spirit, that people may be transformed to the unique image of Christ in their everyday lives finding their true place in God’s church and kingdom. 

God's Business

The City of Refuge Church is a church with a vision of love and unity; striving to be an example for all by providing Biblical teachings, that are both practical and easily understood that through reading and applying the Word of God, one would have victory in their life.  As the church continues to serve the Lord in Spirit and Truth with hearts and minds renewed daily upon His word, the aim is to see God’s people Blessed through Holiness and the revealing of those things hidden from man for ages for such a time as this.

Why We're Here

There are various ministries, which we have established to fulfill God's purpose.  They are as followed: Adult and Youth Bible Study, Sunday School, Youth Department, Intercessory Prayer, New Convert Classes, Praise Team, Youth Choir, Men’s and Women’s Department.

Some of the method of our outreach to the community has been the following programs: Food Giveaway: Saturday before Thanksgiving’s Day to low income families, Youth Day: games and activities for youth/teenagers in apartment complex at “The Villa”, Vacation Bible School, Hallelujah Night: alternative fun and games for youth/teenagers during Halloween night.  Street and Visitation Ministry, Hospital and Nursing Home Ministry and Bus Ministry.  

Visions for the future is to incorporate an After School program to offer guidance and supervision to youth/teenagers as well as support for the parent.  This would come in the form of helping youth/teenagers with homework, and preparing students for the SAT, ACT, and PACT test.  Parenting, Basic Life skills, Financial skills, Credit Card management, and Job-Hunting skills will also be incorporated.
